Delhi Airport Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 Transfer Guide

Travelling through Delhi Airport for the first time and wondering how to transfer between Terminal 2 (T2) and Terminal 3 (T3)? You are not alone. I have often come across questions from travellers on different travel forums about how to walk between these two terminals.

In this guide, I will explain how to transfer between Delhi Airport Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 on foot, including the route from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2, the route in the opposite direction, and how to reach the Delhi Metro station.

The good news is that Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are within walking distance of each other, and you do not need to take a bus or taxi just to travel between them. The following directions and photographs will help you find your way.

Delhi Airport Terminal 2 vs Terminal 3

Delhi Airport has three terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 handle domestic flights, while Terminal 3 also handles international flights.

T2 and T3 are located opposite each other, with a pedestrian route connecting them. Under normal conditions, the walk takes approximately five minutes, although the actual time may vary depending on your walking speed, luggage and the route conditions.

The walkway is well lit and marked, and much of it is covered. You can generally walk with your luggage trolley, although you will need to cross roadways along the way.

In fact, the walk between T2 and T3 can feel shorter than the distance you cover walking from your aircraft to the exit inside Terminal 3!

Important: Before setting out, check your flight details and terminal information. Terminal assignments and airport access arrangements can change, so always follow the latest airport signs.

1. How to Walk from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2

If you arrive at Terminal 3 and need to reach Terminal 2 for your connecting domestic flight, follow these directions.

Step 1: Find your way towards the left after exiting Terminal 3

After coming out of Terminal 3, turn left, regardless of which arrival exit you use, and continue walking towards the end of the building.

In the route described here, Gate 1 is towards the right and Gate 6 is towards the left. Continue towards the far end, where you will find a food court.

Step 2: Find the pedestrian walkway near the food court

Walk through the passage between the food court and Pillar No. 18. You will see a pathway going straight ahead.

Follow this pedestrian route. You will first cross a roadway, then walk past a parking area and a waiting area for bus passengers.

Continue straight and cross another roadway. You will then enter a tunnel-like covered passage that leads towards Terminal 2.

Step 3: Reach Terminal 2 Arrivals

At the end of the passage, you will arrive at Terminal 2’s arrivals area.

If you need to catch a flight from Terminal 2, proceed to the departure level using the stairs or elevator.

Allow extra time if you have checked baggage, need to check in again, or must complete security screening for your next flight.

2. How to Walk from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3

The reverse route is equally straightforward. If you arrive at Terminal 2 and need to reach Terminal 3, you can follow the pedestrian walkway.

Step 1: Exit Terminal 2

Terminal 2 has an exit leading to the outside forecourt. After coming out of the terminal, you will find the taxi, bus and pickup areas to your left.

To walk towards Terminal 3 or the Metro station, follow the airport signs and continue along the pedestrian route towards Terminal 3.

The photographs below show the exit and the direction to follow.

Step 2: Continue towards Terminal 3

Follow the signs and continue walking along the pedestrian path. Under normal conditions, you should reach Terminal 3 in approximately five minutes.

Once you reach Terminal 3, enter the terminal and follow the signs to your airline’s check-in counter or departure area.

Remember that reaching the terminal building is not the same as completing your flight check-in and security screening. Keep sufficient time for these formalities.

3. How to Reach the Delhi Metro Station from Terminal 2 or Terminal 3

If you are planning to continue your journey by Metro, you can also reach the airport Metro station on foot from these terminal areas.

From Terminal 3

After exiting Terminal 3, follow the pedestrian route towards the Metro station. In the route described in this guide, the Metro entrance is near Pillar No. 10, across the driveway.

If you are coming from the Metro station and need to walk towards Terminal 2, use the exit at Level 0, rather than the Level 1 exit that connects directly to the terminal building’s mezzanine floor. From Level 0, cross the driveway and walk towards Terminal 3. Near Pillar No. 10, turn right and continue towards the end of the building, then follow the directions in the first section above.

Follow the current airport and Metro signs, as access arrangements may change.

Hi Rahul, that is a very good article. So my international flight arrives in T3 and my domesitc flight is in T2. Could you please let me know a transfer duration of 2 hours is sufficient? considering current corona regulations. Thanks

Better if you share exact flight details.
Most probably both flight booked on different PNR and for that 2 hr is not a duration for comfortable transfers.Consider around 1 hr to exit T3 after immigration and custom, another minimum 10 min to reach Check in counter of T2 and check in desk closes 45 min before departure.
If traveling without checkin baggage then story would be little different and relatively comfortable.

Is 2 hr domestic transfer sufficient for t2 to t3 in the morning?

Very tight but still doable if on same PNR.
If on different PNR then very tight specially if travelling with baggage, check in desk for domestic closes 60 min before departure so if have to collect baggage and check in again at next terminal then its very tight,

Are you an Indian with Adhar? If yes then doable easily.
Considering flight arrives on time, you would be at T3 in next 20 min.Download Digiyatra app and login with your adhar and a selfie, then after doing web check in upload your boarding pass on digiyatra and share with airport.
There is a dedicated entry at T3 for Digiyatra passenger and take hardly 2 min to enter, and at security check also dedicated security (actually its of business class) and take hardly 5-10 min max and you can comfortably reach boarding gate.
If not using Digiyatra then would be very tight,10-15 min to enter and security checks depends upon luck, may be crowded and may take 30-40 min too.
In any condition you have to reach gate 25 min before departure and if needed ready to jump queue.

Hi Rahul, thank you very much for all your information.
My family and I (my wife and 9 years old daughter) will be traveling this next July. We will have a domestic flight (Indigo) arriving at terminal 2 at 9am and then we need to catch an international flight (Thai Airways) on terminal 3 departing at 11:40am. Is this 2 hours and 40 minutes good enough to make our change? Yes we will be having checking baggages.

If your arrival flight arrives on time then you can but if there is any delay then it can create problem.

Check in for Thai airways closes 60 min before departure so first you have 1 hr 40 min to reach check in counter. Expect 30 min to disembark from aircraft to baggage and exit and reach T3 departure so if on time then no issues. If you do check in on time and got boarding pass then almost rare chance that you miss your flight.

Arrivals at T3 is at ground floor and departure is at level 1 so you have to take elevator to departure level, follow the sign of “departure “ to get elevator when reach T3 .
Departure is common till check in so can entry from any gate.
Your flight is domestic or international? You didn’t mentioned in your query! Digi Yatra doesn’t works for international flights.
Also when flying international need to visit check in counter to get boarding pass.

Entry is from Level 1 ,all gates are common for domestic and international departure, just choose whichever gate is less crowded, most of the time gate 6-7 are less crowded.
Elevator to departure is near pillar 9-10-11 ,its well signed.
